Title: Pharmacy Technician II
Location: Remote - Houston, TX
Duration: 6 Months (Possible Extensions)
Shift: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM CT (No overtime)


Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician 2 works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to accurately prepare and process prescription orders in a timely, compliant, and quality-driven environment. This role supports the Ascend Project and requires excellent communication, outbound calling experience, multitasking ability, and strong production performance. The Pharmacy Technician ensures accurate dispensing, inventory coordination, data entry, and compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, count, label, and package pharmaceutical products for pharmacist verification.
  • Locate correct medications and strengths to complete accurate prescription picking.
  • Perform high-volume outbound calls to prescribers' offices for clarifications, refill requests, or missing documentation (90% outbound, 10% inbound).
  • Enter prescription and referral data with high accuracy (target: 72 referrals per hour).
  • Assist with purchasing, receiving, and maintaining pharmacy inventory.
  • Retrieve, document, and dispose of expired or discontinued medications according to policy.
  • Maintain pharmacy logs including temperature, calibration, cleaning, and prescription logs.
  • Ensure compliance with state licensure requirements, safety standards, HIPAA, and QA procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams while meeting productivity, accuracy, and quality metrics.
  • Perform all duties according to AcariaHealth and Centene policies.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • TSBP (Texas State Board of Pharmacy) Registration Required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.
  • 2-3+ years of consistent Pharmacy Technician experience (hospital, specialty, or clinical; retail-only profiles are disqualifiers).
  • Strong data entry skills; ability to handle 80+ calls per day.
  • Familiarity with medications used in chronic and specialty disease states.
  • Excellent teamwork, multitasking, communication, and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty pharmacy or mail-order experience.
  • Prior experience working in a high-volume call center or clinical support environment.
  • Strong knowledge of chronic disease medications.
  • Experience working with productivity-based performance sheets.
